Vienna Day Three: Melk

WJU students and professors made their way to Melk to see the Benedictine Abbey that overlooks the quaint village, located along the Danube about 55 miles outside of Vienna.

The group made their way by rail, which allowed for getting out of the city and witnessing the beautiful country side.

The abbey--established in the 11th century and rebuilt in the 18th after being devastated by a fire--showed students the influence of the baroque era with an expansive, gold-guilded church, complete with several frescos and altars displaying events important to Christian faith, and a library with over 100,000 books and manuscripts.

After exploring the abbey, students were free to wander the village and sample the local cuisine, with a few getting their first taste of authentic apple strudel.
